Chicago Sun-Times -- Date: 15 January 1999 Voice activated lights can save you a spill HOME DIGEST By - Bill Cunniff
"The new 'IntelaVoice™' is the world's first voice-activated light switch," said Rick Matulich of VOS Systems the manufacturer, based in Poway, Calif. "IntelaVoice™ let you turn a light on and off with a simple one-word command: 'Lights.' " The product also is programmed for three other vocal commands, which allow you to turn off and on radios, televisions, fans and other small appliances, he said. "IntelaVoice™ works from as far away as 20 feet," Matulich said. IntelaVoice™ is a stand-alone unit that is sized like (and looks like) a computer mouse. "It works with most types of lights: incandescent, fluorescent and lights with dimmers," Matulich said. "And [especially] for the physically challenged, the IntelaVoice™ is an easy-to-use, long-overdue convenience," he said. The IntelaVoice™ is available by mail from the manufacturer. It's priced at $29.95. An add-on microphone gizmo, the LiteMic™, lets you hide away the IntelaVoice™, like behind a couch or under a desk. The LiteMic™ is $9.95.
