short-circuit

Let there be light
Back
in the old days, you had to flip switches manually to turn on the lights
in your home. Then came modern gadgets that allowed you to turn on your
lights with a clap of the hands.
So
what do you do when your hands are full? This annoying problem is solved
with the IntelaVoice, "the world's first voice-activated light switch,"
according to its California manufacturer VOS Systems.
The
IntelaVoice works with lights, radios, TVs, and other appliances. You
plug it into any standard outlet, and any lamp or small appliance that is
plugged into it will respond to your voice commands.
The
switch is voice-activated with anyone's voice. It requires no
"training." It works with incandescent and flourescent lights, as well as
lights with dimmers.
Its
manufacturer points out that its use goes beyond simple convenience by
offering illumination on demand. For some disabled consumers, it may
offer the only ability to independently turn on a light or appliance.
The
IntelaVoice retails for $29.95 at True Value stores, including Fryer's
Hardware in Orlando, 407-558-7848.
You
also can order it from the VOS Web site -- vossystems.com -- or by calling
the company toll-free at 1-800-596-0061. However you will pay an
additional $7.95 for shipping and handling. |
