The Wall Street Journal
At least one product ran counter to the general push to pipe down. VOS Systems Inc., Poway, Calif., introduced voice-activated $30 light switches that can be plugged into walls and $40 dimmer switches that are hard-wired. A voice-activated ceiling fan switch is in development, says company Vice President Tony Bird. The switches recognize one word- "Lights!"- right out of the box, or can be trained to recognize other one-word commands. In June, Mr. Bird plans to jazz up the line with a $60 silver-colored dimmer switch with blinking lights that responds to commands in the voice of Star Trek actress Majel Roddenberry. "When people talk to their homes, they like a little acknowledgement," he says. VOS
